Flex-Hone brushes—also known as bore honing brushes—consist of abrasive balls mounted on a flexible twisted-wire stem, typically featuring silicon carbide abrasive. They utilize centrifugal force to automatically conform to the bore wall, making them ideal for deburring, polishing, and removing machining marks in through-holes, blind holes, and cross-holes without compromising the hole's original diameter or roundness..

The Flex-Hone brush is a resilient, flexible honing tool that utilizes a gentle abrading process. Its design allows the abrasive globules or stones to conform to the surface, making the tool self-centering and self-aligning, as well as suitable for use in out-of-round bores.
The process operates at low temperatures and low pressures, exposing the underlying metal structure to create a durable, long-lasting surface free from the fragmented, amorphous, or smeared metal often left by prior machining. This results in a cross-hatch pattern with recesses that are crucial for oil film retention.
Structure
1. Abrasive balls: Nylon matrix embedded with silicon carbide (SiC) particles, offering excellent self-sharpening properties; aluminum oxide (AO) versions are also available.
2. Core: Twisted steel wire shaft; flexible and bendable, allowing for slight misalignment.
3. Shank: Compatible with CNC machining centers, electric drills, and robotic spindles.
Key Advantages
1. Self-centering capability; capable of honing irregular holes and intersecting hole junctions.
2. Flexible action; preserves the workpiece's original dimensions without gouging.
3. Suitable for automated CNC batch processing, eliminating the need for manual labor.
4. Extended tool life with wet honing (using cutting fluid); faster wear occurs during dry honing.
Application

- Deburring of hydraulic valve blocks and intersecting oil passages (most common application)
- Honing and carbon deposit removal for the bores of hydraulic cylinders, pneumatic cylinders, and cylinder liners
- Precision bore polishing for stainless steel, aluminum, and cast iron components
- Surface treatment of engine cylinder blocks and piston bore walls
